Scientists have applied psi (or “psychic” functioning) to areas such as self-improvement, executive decision-making, financial markets, military strategy, and law enforcement. However, we have yet to explore the application of psi to the most significant crisis yet faced by humanity: climate change and its associated environmental challenges, which threaten the extinction of vast numbers of species as well as (arguably) our own. As researchers, practitioners, and professionals interested in the relationship between consciousness and physical reality, we have a role to play in mitigating imminent ecological disaster.
As the year comes to a close, Public Parapsychology is calling for centers, laboratories, and citizen scientists engaged in consciousness-based research & practices to consider devoting at least a small portion of their 2022 activities to climate action. Through a series of online events in December and January, the volunteer-run Public Parapsychology Community (PPC) is providing a virtual space for academics and members of the public alike to explore the application of consciousness-based practices as change agents to help combat the global climate crisis. This will take the shape of a workshop, ideathon, and collaborative sprint.
PPC Workshop
Friday, December 17th
This full day event will feature presentations by Alex A. Álvarez, Mark Boccuzzi, Michael Daw, Ramsés D’León, Jack Hunter, Pascal Michael, Julia Mossbridge, and Annalisa Ventola to stimulate a discussion around premises and possibilities for climate action.
Networking opportunities throughout the day will give attendees the opportunity to connect with researchers, practitioners, religious leaders, information technologists, graphic designers, marketers, and other professionals who may be willing to volunteer their time.
PPC Ideathon
Saturday, December 18th
The next day will give those interested in further lending their expertise to psi-based climate action, the opportunity to create or join teams around the ideas discussed in the previous day’s workshop. The teams will commit to a specific research objective and determine each team member’s role.
PPC Collaborative Sprint
Saturday, January 8th (registration details TBA)
Finally, the teams will ring in the new year with a Collaborative Sprint, which will involve structured activities to assist each team in developing its ideas. The general aim of the event will be to produce practical and measurable methods thereby forming the basis of a multifaceted international effort to apply consciousness-based practices to climate action. With the protocols determined, each team will decide when and how to continue their efforts toward finishing their project.
